How to automatically caption your Instagram Stories

You can now add a “captions sticker” to Instagram Stories that automatically transcribes your audio into captions without the need for third-party apps. This is a useful tool for both creators and audiences, as videos with live captions are more accessible for people with hearing impairments It is for those who prefer to watch with the sound off.

Unlike the automated captions seen in live IGTV videos, the new caption stickers look more like intentional video elements than plain text at the bottom of the screen – although you can also opt for the simple caption look if that's your preference. Like other Instagram stickers, you can change the caption position, color, size, and font, and edit the caption text, which is useful for cases where the app mishears a word. You can also use the pen tool to draw below or over the captions on the screen.

At launch, caption stickers only work in English and are therefore only rolling out to iOS and Android users in predominantly English-speaking countries. Instagram says the sticker will soon be able to be used in Instagram Reels videos as well, and could be integrated into other types of Instagram video content in the future.
