Use vegetable oil to condition your hair

Is there anything vegetable oil can't do? It's the main ingredient in many delicious dishes, can be used as fuel for cars, and can condition your hair. We've already written about how to condition your hair with coconut oil, but I thought it was time to reveal the whole truth: you can also give it to your your hair a fantastic shine with many different types of vegetable oils. As Josh noted in his post, using coconut oil is a traditional practice in Asia and the South Pacific — but that doesn't mean it should be the only type of vegetable oil you use.

According to Green Living, many different types of vegetable oils will do the trick: If you can't find organic coconut oil, which is the best choice, try sunflower or safflower oil. Just make sure they're all natural – organic is always better.

Just apply the vegetable oil directly to the scalp – and check the prejudices that all oils are oily at the door. In fact, as GL points out, vegetable oil is especially efficient at cleaning tiny dust particles responsible for dandruff, scalp irritation, and even some types of hair loss. Plus, rubbing this oil in is just as calming and relaxing as the most luxurious conditioners on the market—there's something special about vegetable oil.

The best way to apply the conditioner, as GL says, is as follows:

Massage a small amount of vegetable oil into your scalp using gentle pressure with your fingertips and small circular movements. Comb through to the ends of your hair to ensure you've covered every strand. Then, apply a turban made from a warm, damp towel to help it penetrate your scalp and hair. Let the oil sit for at least an hour (or overnight if possible) and then wash your hair.

So if you're looking for something a little different from the old mop, go ahead and try natural vegetable oil – it could very well become your conditioner of choice.
